Build A Garden Obelisk

An obelisk has many benefits for your food or flower garden. You can grow more without the need to build more garden boxes. For a small garden, an obelisk increases growing capacity through height without changing your garden size. For a large garden, obelisks create visual interest and can define gardening zones. For the wee ones, it makes a tent for a great play space! You can change the height and width of your future obelisk depending on your garden needs.

Obelisks are great for growing cucumbers, luffa, pole beans and Three Sisters (corn, squash, beans). We use obelisks to grow Scarlet runners and Snap peas. This year we're trying hops. Many flowers, including Clematis and Sweet peas, to name a few will benefit from an obelisk.

All materials supplied.
No previous skill required.
You go home with a materials list and instructions.

Foraging Wild Foods and Medicine

An Afternoon Foraging Wild Food and Medicine
Are you interested in learning to use the wild plants around you as food and medicine to support good health?  In this hands-on workshop, clinical herbalist Oren Hercz will teach you to identify, harvest, store, and eat some abundant local medicinals.  You'll gain tools for foraging safely and ethically, while also learning about the plants' health benefits in a hands-on sensory way. This means we'll smell, touch, and taste the plants to intuitively grasp their healing properties. Along the way, we’ll harvest medicinals to make a nourishing wild salad and wild pesto.  Afterwards, we'll enjoy lunch together supplemented with our new wild green friends!

About the Instructor
Oren Hercz RHP (HANS) has been in practice as a Clinical Herbalist since 2010, working in holistic health clinics, a family medicine office, and in private practice online.  He helps people living with chronic health issues who want to feel a greater sense of ease and wellness in mind and body.  Oren also teaches classes and workshops, empowering people to become their own home herbalists and be proactive about their health.  He is a Registered Herbal Practitioner (RHP) with the Herbalist Association of Nova Scotia, where he currently sits on the board of directors. Oren is passionate about building healthy relationships between people and the earth. He cares deeply about bringing this traditional wisdom to today’s world, where we need it more than ever. You can learn more about Oren at www.orenhercz.ca.

Foraged Florals is happy to host this workshop with Oren Hercz, Cliinical Herbalist, on our 32 acre forest and permaculture flower farm. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for this forest walk. We will identify and collect at least 10 wild plants that will become an el fresco feast. Food from the forest to the fork. Want to broaden your foraging experience? You can stay on site at our tiny, off-grid cabin, available for rent through AirBnB.

Workshop Participants’ feedback

New Ross Family Resource Centre workshop series
We have been so fortunate to have you come and teach the community about flower arrangements and displays. You have truly exceeded my expectations and have created such beautiful art with the participants. … thank you for your time, passion, patience and knowledge! ~ Karen Snair, Executive Director, New Ross Family Resource
BioChar
I just had my first workshop with Susan learning BioChar. It is such a beneficial process to help improve soil quality as well as reducing waste and producing energy. The process was well explained and I learned a lot about soil degradation and the benefits of composting using what I have on my own property. The gardens are lovely and the conversation so enlightening. I will be back to pick up more tips! ~ Patti (Google review)
